INTRODUCTION

DESERTEC :

The energy from SUN drives the climate and weather and supports virtually all life on Earth ,the heat and light from the sun, along with solar-based resources such as wind and wave power, hydroelectricity and so on, accounts for most of the available flow of renewable energy sources on earth. There are many technologies for harnessing solar energy.Solar power is used synonymously with solar energy or more specifically to refer to the conversion of sunlight into electricity. This can be done either through the photovoltaic effect or by heating a transfer fluid to produce steam to run a generator.

The later method of generating electricity by using transfer fluid is the basic concept behind DESERTEC.It is the technology related to the development and production of the clean energy or the electrical energy from the deserts with the help of cocentrated solar energy. Here the heating of the fluid and eventually conversion in to steam is done by concentrating the solar radiations with the help of the mirrors on the tube containing the fluid which converts it to steam, which is used to run the steam turbine and thus producing the electrical energy. This eletrical energy is then supplied to the various substations using HVDC ( HIGH VOLTAGE DIRECT CURRENT ) transmission lines which are capable of supplying energy with very low possible losses and hence increases the efficiency of the plant. Thus making it more economical and affordable technology for the future.
