ARTIFICIAL NEURAL NETWORKS .doc --An innovation in artificial intelligence (Paper Presentation)

ABSTRACT:

As you read these words you are using a complex biological neural network. You have a highly interconnected set of some 1011 neurons to facilitate your reading, breathing, motion and thinking. Each of your biological neurons, a rich assembly of tissue and chemistry, has the complexity, if not the speed, of a microprocessor. Some of your neural structure was with you at birth. Other parts have been established by experience. An Artificial Neural Network (ANN) is an information processing paradigm that is inspired by the way biological nervous systems, such as the brain, process information. The key element of this paradigm is the novel structure of the information processing system. It is composed of a large number of highly interconnected processing elements (neurons) working in unison to solve specific problems.

ANNs, like people, learn by example. An ANN is configured for a specific application, such as pattern recognition or data classification, through a learning process. At present, the answer seems to be that neural networks will not only have their day but will have a permanent place, not as a solution to every problem, but as tool to be used in appropriate situations. The overall objective of this study is to investigate to what extent neural networks are used, and are likely to be used in the near
