Implementing an Adaptive Expert System in a combat game .doc (Paper Presentation)

Abstract
Expert Systems are the most popular and
successful of the AI-based tools that have been evolved to
address problem in planning, diagnosis, fraud protection
and engineering fault analysis. They are computer
programs designed to simulate the problem-solving
behavior of a human who is an expert in a narrow domain.
The program uses the knowledge domain coded in it and a
specified control strategy to arrive at solutions. This paper
is aimed at bringing out a comprehensive presentation on
Expert systems based methodologies herein the focus is on
their importance in the game development. We lay
emphasis on the implementation of the expert systems in a
combat game where the computer must be given the ability
to anticipate the player’s next strike so that the computer
opponent can make the appropriate countermove. To
achieve this, we simulate a rule-based system with a
learning capability in the two known approaches:
Weighted Method and Probabilistic Method, and compare
the success rates achieved with the success rates obtained
by random-guessing.
