HUMAN AREA NETWORKING .doc ---USING REDTACTON (Paper Presentation)

ABSTRACT:

Everywhere services that are genuinely user-friendly to everyone will require technologies that enable communication between people and objects in close proximity. Focusing on the naturalness, inevitability, and sense of security conveyed by touching in everyday life, this article describes human area networking technology that enables communication by touching, which we call Red Tacton . Here, the human body acts as a transmission medium supporting IEEE 802.3 half-duplex communication at 10Mbit/s. The key component of the transceiver is an electric-field sensor implemented with an electro optic crystal and laser light. Human A rea N etworks (HAN) for connectivity to personal information, media and communication appliances within the much smaller sphere of ordinary daily activities-- the last one-meter. In the past, Bluetooth, infrared communications (IrDA), radio frequency ID systems (RFID) were used. .

The physical resistance offered by the human body could be used create a virtual keyboard on a patch of skin. The skin can be used as a power conduit and data bus. The body may be that wide variety of living animals and need not be limited to being a body of a human being.

Typical applications of Red Tacton includes in health services, Defense applications at war fronts, advanced space research etc.

Recent technological advances in integrated circuits, wireless communications, and physiological sensing allow miniature, lightweight, ultra-low power, intelligent monitoring devices. A number of these devices can be integrated into a Wireless Body Area Network (WBAN), a new enabling technology for
